Nothing is known about the artist who painted this amazing work. Allegedly, it was created in a spiritualist circle in Vienna.
It not only is reminiscent of fanciful medieval illuminated botanical books. With the human faces in the center of the unfolding plant-like structure and its strict adherence to a number-system – here the number three – and the imaginative execution it also reminds the illustrations of the mysterious Voynich manuscript.
