BIOGRAPHY

Maria Hofman was a medium in the Malik Spiritualist Circle in Vienna, Austria, and is regarded as one of the most fascinating and talented mediumistic artists—not only within the Circle but worldwide. Unfortunately, little is known about her life, including the exact period when she was active. However, the style of her designs and the paper used suggest that her works were likely created in the 1920s or 1930s.

Hofman’s creations are remarkable for their abstract swirls, rendered in both pencil and vibrant color, showcasing extraordinary artistic creativity and a striking aesthetic presence. Her drawings are densely packed with curved lines, long and short strokes forming circles, and delicate, closely spaced lines that create shimmering surfaces in her colorful compositions. Occasionally, she embedded faces within these mesmerizing patterns. Some drawings also feature letters, likely referencing the spirit guide who inspired the artwork. Two pieces bear the names of guiding spirits, Alazius and Severin, along with the time it took her to complete them.

Maria Hofman’s works stand as some of the finest examples of mediumistic art known today.
